Michael SkellyVia Burnt Orange Report, by way of Swing State Project and Roll Call, we note that some new poll numbers show that Michael Skelly (D-Houston) is in an excellent position to defeat Congressman John Culberson (R-Houston) this November.

The poll conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research shows that Skelly had narrowed the gap between him and Culberson to 7 points with 13 percent still undecided and a 4.4 point margin of error.

More from Roll Call:

Skelly, who is hoping to upend Culberson in the solidly Republican, suburban Houston 7th district, trailed the incumbent Congressman, 44 percent to 37 percent, with 13 percent undecided and 6 percent showing a preference for a third-party candidate.

“These findings indicate that Culberson is extremely vulnerable as he falls well below majority support as voters are looking for change,” Democratic pollsters Ben Tulchin and Julie Lein wrote in the polling memo.

The poll of 500 likely voters, conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, had a 4.4-point error margin.

Of course, the National Republican Congressional Committee is so frightened of the poll, all they could do was criticize the messenger:

The National Republican Congressional Committee dismissed the poll, contending that 7th district voters would reject Skelly when they learned more about who he is.

Such hot air. They also complained about the poll’s timing, which wasn’t as anywhere near as bad as the NRCC claimed, and had no doubt been weeks and weeks in the planning stage.
