TX SD 10: Brimer Dodges Debates In Attempt To Hide His Record

Following a sound beating from former Fort Worth City Councilwoman Wendy Davis in a League of Women Voter’s Debate last Thursday, State Sen. Kim Brimer (R-Fort Worth) was a no-show for a debate last night hosted by the Coalition of Retired Employees and General Employees of the City of Fort Worth. To boot, Brimer has pulled out of a televised debate sponsored by WFAA-TV scheduled for October 27.
Coming just as a Brimer campaign commercial debuted claiming that the incumbent senator returns all of his phone calls, the moderator of last night’s debate exclaimed that the organization had contacted Brimer’s campaign through mail and over the phone and that Brimer failed to respond.
Of course, Brimer wants to stay away from public appearances like debates because he doesn’t want people to know about his failed record, or the fact that taxpayers were forced to bail him out on loans upon which he defaulted.
From Wendy Davis’ campaign:
“Kim Brimer will do whatever it takes to avoid facing voters and answering for his failed record. But no matter how many baseless lawsuits he files, and no matter how many debates he dodges, he can’t hide from the voters on election day,” Davis campaign spokesman Bernie Scheffler said.
Davis answered written questions from the audience for about an hour, frequently taking Brimer to task for his failed record on issues like public education and regional transportation planning. In the end, though, Davis noted that Brimer’s refusal to show up for a public debate was perhaps the most telling sign of the kind of representative Brimer would be if allowed to keep his State Senate seat.
Davis said that unlike Brimer, she would take the time to listen to the concerns of Tarrant County families and work to address those concerns in the legislature.
“I am a fighter, and I will fight for you in the State Senate,” Davis said.
