Join Capitol Annex In Helping The Texas Legislative Study Group

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Texas Legislative Study Group, you should be. It is one of the finest public policy groups in the American Southwest, if not in the nation. (You can read more about the LSG after the jump).
Every two years, the LSG has a fundraising drive in early December to help pay for its activities during the coming legislative cycle. As we have in the past, we were proud to make a personal donation to the LSG’s efforts. This year, however, we want Capitol Annex readers to pitch in and help the LSG do its great work.
Toward that end, we’re challenging our readers. Last night, we made a $10 donation to the LSG’s fundraising drive. Today, we are pledging to round our contribution up to $50 if Capitol Annex readers will pitch in and raise another $100 for the LSG. That’s 10 people donating $10 each, or 20 people making contributions of $5 each. Make sure, when you fill out the donation form on the LSG’s website, that you put the note “Capitol Annex Reader” in the area for additional comments. The donations are through the PayPal system, and you’ll see this note box on the second screen after you have filled in your initial information and hit “submit.”
More about the LSG:
The LSG is a non-partisan caucus of the Texas House of Representatives. Since the 73rd Legislative Session, the LSG has provided accurate and detailed bill evaluations for all of its members as well as daily floor reports that have proved to be an invaluable tool for dissecting legislation and preparing for floor debates.
From the LSG’s website:
By arming members with accurate information LSG has proved to be a vital part of many legislative battles including protecting key teacher’s rights to benefits, protecting and strengthening our public schools by helping to defeat the sending of tax dollars to private schools, and leading the effort to stop the crippling cuts to the CHIP program.
LSG serves as a primary conduit for the flow of information to legislators on the House floor, during the legislative session. Full time, expert staff focused on key policy areas provide detailed analysis of bills which fall into one of five areas of interest: education, environment, budget, health and human services, and worker and consumer issues. Each area of interest has a specific LSG staff member assigned to track and analyze legislation.
