Hispanic Caucus Pushing Noriega For Cabinet Post

State Rep. Rick Noriega (D-Houston) has been recommended fopr the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs by Congressman Charlie Gonzalez (D-San Antonio) and Rep. Joe Baca (D-Calif.) as part of a push by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for president-elect Barack Obama to place more Hispanics in his cabinet.

In addition to Noriega, other Hispanic cabinet candidates were also suggested:

Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., for U.S. Trade Representative, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion for Housing & Urban Development Secretary, Rep. Linda Sanchez for Labor Secretary and Colorado Rep. John Salazar for Agriculture Secretary.

Another high-profile Texas Hispanic, labor activist Linda Chavez Thompson, is also being promoted as a possible Secretary of Labor.
