Former Texas Secretary Of State Roger Williams Planning Senate Run

Former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams announced Monday that he intends to join the race to replace U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison who is planning a run for governor.
The announcement, which was largely eclipsed by former Texas Comptroller John Sharp’s announcement that he was joining the race, was a surprise. Most had considered Williams, a car dealer, to be a likely candidate for Texas Governor in 2010. However, with the altered primary landscape since Hutchison has called everyone’s bluff and entered the governor’s race, Williams is evidently looking for greener pastures in which to run.

Expect the announcement “within the next day or two,” he said.
“We’re getting ready to go,” he said in a telephone interview, “so it’s imminent.”
