The Chair of the House Appropriations Committee yesterday told reporters that it was doubtful that any money would be available during this session of the Texas Legislature to raise more universities to “Tier I” status in spite of growing calls to do so.
State Rep. Warren Chisum (R-Pampa), the Appropriations Chair,Chisum told reporters:
“It’s going to be a pretty thin budget. I don’t think we’re going to have a lot of new money to spread around,” Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa , said at a briefing for journalists sponsored by The Associated Press.
There actually would be some old money to spread around if the state didn’t spend its money on such stupid programs like abstinence only education, the Texas Enterprise Fund, and a host of other garbage shoved in the appropriations bill by rightwingers over the last three sessions.
