Bill Would Make Insurance Requirements To Get A Vehicle Out Of Impound More Reasonable

Senate Bill 419 by State Sen. John Carona (R-Dallas) would set a more reasonable limit on insurance coverage a vehicle owner is required to show in order to retrieve a vehicle from impound if it was impounded for failure to maintain liability insurance.

At present, the evidence of financial responsibility must cover a two-year period following the date the vehicle is retrieved from impound. Carona’s bill would lower the limit to six months.

This is a far more reasonable limit–especially since this type of situation most frequently impacts low-income Texans..
