OPENING DAY: We Went, We Saw. We Twitted.

Well, Capitol Annex had a front-row seat to see history made this morning/afternoon. Thanks to a very kind State Representative, I was able to score two floor passes to today’s swearing in of House Speaker Joe Strauss.

That’s right, Texas House of Representatives: I was doing it in your Facebook, with the Twittering.

Of course, I probably wasn’t the only one, but from my vantage point, I was the only blogger on the floor. (Now, about those Press Credentials for Bloggers, Speaker Straus…). Anyway….

Sadly, most of our Twitter activity came from the time we were waiting in line for Gallery seats, just in case we weren’t able to get floor passes in time. Just before I walked in the door of the House with the floor passes, my battery went kaput. I traded SIM cards with my dear Michael Anne, and was able to continue Twittering. However, she didn’t have a PDA, so the Twitts were few and far between (having to press a key three times to get a letter is so 1998). That, and 19 camera men from various media outlets were repeatedly stepping on my toes.

And, it turns out, we missed a hell of a show in the Senate. We’re going back tomorrow to catch some of that show, and we’ll be twittering as much as we can. We may even try to catch a stray legislator or two for an interview if we can find our trusty mp3 recorder.

We’re off to a few functions and may Twitt intermittently tonight. When we get back to the hotel later, we’ll do a full round-up of today’s activities.
