State Sen. Bob Deuell’s bill to close the Office of State Federal Relations will be heard before the Senate Government Affairs Committee today at 1:30 p.m. (or upon the Senate’s final adjournment).
The bill by the Greenville Republican, SB 1003, is similar to legislation filed last year. As with last year’s bill, there are no provisions contained in this bill to stop the controversial practice of the state hiring lobbyists in Washington.
Although much of the controversy surrounding the Office of State Federal Relations–which was up for Sunset Review last year–has died down, it is uncertain if Deuell’s bill will have a better chance than the one fliked by State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) last year.
