Hog Helicopter Hunting Bill Gets Committee Hearing Today

A controversial bill that would allow feral hogs to be shot from helicopters will get a hearing before the House Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism this afternoon.
The legislation, HB 836, is will be heard when the committee convenes at two o’clock this afternoon (or on final adjournment). Authored by State Rep. Sid Miller (R-Stephenville), the bill now has two co-authors: State Reps. Wayne Christian (R-Center) and Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City).
The bill allows the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to adopt rules to make sure chopper hog hunting is safe but does not restrict where hunting can occur, when hunting can occur (i.e., at night or during the day), or anything else—leaving all of the finer points to the appointed members of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.
