Gohmert Says Iowa Gay Marriage Decision Signals Downfall Of American Civilization

Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) told a television station in his home district this weekend that the Iowa Supreme Court’s recent decision on gay marriage signaled the end of the existence of the American civilization.
“Nature does not allow for generations to proceed on if you have Adam and Steve instead of Adam and Eve. Even to the very earliest city states, when a nation begins to say that this…the relationship between two men and two women sexually is normal, they are normally very close to the end of their existence,” Gohmert told KETK-TV, a Tyler NBC affiliate. The report was broadcast on the station’s 10 p.m. newscast Saturday.
Gohmert, a former state district judge in Smith County, is well-known in Texas as a staunch ultraconservative. Among his most recent antics was a bill to relocate detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the lawn of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. Gohmert introduced the legislation in response to a ruling by the high court that Guitmo detainees were protected by the United States Constitution.
Gohmert, who one colleague has called a “chickenshit thief,” has previously been criticized for comparing the debate over energy independence to the debate over slavery. One of the ringleaders of attempts to stall the passage of the re-authorization of the Voting Rights Act in 2006, Gohmert has also managed to manipulate the words of Dr. Martin Luther King during an anti-choice rally.
He’s also famous for some bizarre antics on the House floor, including thanking God that House Majority Leader John Murtha wasn’t in Congress after the battle of Normandy, “because we’d all be speaking Japanese.” Video of that incident is below:

Did that knuckle-dragging dumbass really just use “Adam and Steve”?
[...] Of course, Western Iowa’s Representative Steve King sees this as a bad thing, fearing Iowa becoming a “gay marriage Mecca.” Others say polygamy is next (and of course, after that comes marrying your dogs and cats); generally, there’s a lot of the usual fear and loathing, promising that this is just the first step off the deep end towards total annihilation of our civilization. (No, I’m not just being snarky.) [...]
That sure didn’t stop him from having openly gay staffers working in his DC office.
Murtha’s not the House majority leader.
