Abandoning Her Own Senate Hopes, Granger Endorses Roger Williams

Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth), evidently abandoning her own senate hopes in an already crowded field to replace U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, has endorsed former Secretary of State Roger Williams for U.S. Senate.
From Williams’ campaign:
Calling him “the right leader at the right time,” Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX) has endorsed former Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams for the United States Senate. Granger is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and a recognized leader on national defense and health care policy.
“At this time of unprecedented economic crisis, what Washington needs is a business leader who doesn’t just talk about creating jobs, but has actually done it,” Granger said. “As a small businessman, Roger knows what is needed to help get the economy moving forward again. I’m impressed by his innovative ideas on reducing payroll taxes and reforming health care so that it is more affordable and available. Roger doesn’t just talk economic development, he’s lived it. And he will provide real leadership to the state, the Senate and the country.”
“I’m honored to be endorsed by such a fine public servant as Kay Granger,” Williams said in accepting the endorsement. “For thirteen years, she’s been a leader for common sense, conservative ideas. She and I know that we cannot spend or regulate our way out of this economic crisis. We must provide incentives to businesses and individuals to save, invest and create.”
Granger would likely have been one of the favorites in the eventual race to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison, who will be abandoning her seat in 2012 or upon her election as governor of Texas sometime in 2010.
Williams is quickly becoming a front-runner in the race on the GOP side, along with Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael L. Williams.
