Betty Brown Issues Pseudo Apology To Asian Americans
Vince Leibowitz | Apr 10, 2009 | Comments 6
State Rep. Betty Brown (R-Terrell) has issued an apology (of sorts) for suggesting that Asian American voters in Texas change their name to something easier for other Americans to pronounce.
However, her apology may stir up as much of a storm as her original statements. KXAN has her statement:
“We’re ready to work with any of these people who are having problems and have them educate us on anything that might be going on that we’re unaware of,” said Brown.
I’m not sure that the “these people” comment is going to go over well in the Asian American community or the minority community. I guess we’ll see what kind of firestorm this starts.

Rep. Betty Brown,
Maybe you should tell your grandpa(-in-law) and your papa(-in-law) that brown is color , not family name. Maybe you don’t understand what family names mean to Asian people, or Brown is your husband’s family name, you don’t cherish it so much. Luckily, Chinese women can still have their family names even after they get married.
We don’t betray our family just for cheap votes in America. Hope you don’t, either.
By the way, you should fire your spokesman because he apologized with words like ” so what”
without any regrets.
Mike Wang from a great Asian name
Maybe President Obama should change his family name before he votes.
HaHa!
