Call it vanity or a new twist on pay-per-click marketing, but Texas Governor Rick Perry’s re-election campaign has purchased advertising through the popular Google Adsense network to help promote the fact that the governor shot a coyote with a laser-sited pistol in February.
Capitol Annex noticed the Google Ad showing up in an RSS feed for the Houston Chronicle‘s Texas Politics blog via Bloglines reader. A screenshot is below:

While we have not noticed the ads showing up on Google (perhaps we just didn’t find the right word combination to trigger placement), the ads do link directly to a page on the campaign’s website talking about–what else–the governor visiting firing ranges and killing a coyote on a morning jog.
Upon reading the ad, we instantly wondered if people who aren’t familiar with dog breeds might think the Governor defended a region of Canada from a coyote while jogging.
Either way, one must wonder exactly what Perry hopes to accomplish–electorally–by promoting the fact that he shot a coyote while jogging. Perhaps we’ll figure that one out after we figure out exactly how in the hell one jogs with a laser-sited pistol strapped to the body….
