The Texas Democratic Party has filed a federal lawsuit against election officials in Dallas County alleging that the county is violating federal voting laws by failing to count emphasis votes from electronic voting machines in the recount.

Texas Governor Rick Perry yesterday set December 16 as the date of the Special Election Runoff in Senate District 17 where Chris Bell (D-Houston) will face Republican Joan Hoffman to determine who fills the seat left vacant by the resignation of Senator Kyle Janek.
TX HD 105: Recount All But Certain

With the provisional ballots counted in the Texas HD 105 race between Rep. Linda Harper Brown (R-Irving) and Democrat Bob Romano, Republicans have–for now–held their one-seat advantage in the Texas House. But, a recount is almost certain and could change the results of the race.

In the Texas House District 11 race, incumbent State Rep. Chuck Hopson (D-Jacksonville) barely held his seat against Republican Brian K. Walker by two tenths of a percent, 49.27 percent to 49.07 for Walker.
In this district, a heavy anti-Obama turnout among Republican voters combined with a heavily negative campaign run by Walker and funded by House Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland) and his allies contributed to Hopson having his closest race ever.

Continuing our postmoretem look at races across Texas, we’re turning our attention to Texas House Districts, where we’ll start with House District 3.
State Rep. Mark Homer (D-Paris) was re-elected in Texas House District 3–a district that includes Lamar, Delta, Red River, Hopkins, and Titus Counties–with 51.72 percent of the vote. It was a race that never should have been this close and was undoubtedly impacted by the fact that Barack Obama was at the top of the ballot for Democrats and energized Republican turnout.

Baylor University Students Burn Obama Campaign Signs, Shout Insults To Protest Obama’s Win

Students at Waco’s Baylor University made a barbecue pit bonfire out of Barack Obama campaign signs, shouted insults about Obama in protest of his win Tuesday night, the same day a noose was found hanging from a tree on the ultraconservative Baptist campus.

Obama Underperformed John Kerry In 100 Texas Counties

Barack Obama’s performance in Tuesday’s election was worse than John Kerry’s performance in 100 counties across Texas according to a comparison of data from the 2004 and 2008 elections.
In some cases, Obama underperformed and voterturnout was significantly lower than it was four years ago.
