Another Democrat who spoke in the House yesterday aside from Richard Raymond was State Rep. Aaron Pena (D-Edinburg).
While he was seconding the nomination of House Speaker Tom Craddick—someone that Democratic bloggers do not support—it cannot be said that he didn’t give a good speech.
I wanted to include it as well because I think it speaks [...]

In 2003, there was one. In 2005, there were four. In 2007, there were 27.
What are those numbers? Democrats who voted against Tom Craddick for Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
The 27 are: Roberto Alonzo (D-Dallas), Lon Burnam (D-Fort Worth), Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio), Garnet Coleman (D-Houston), Yvonne Davis (D-Dallas), Jim Dunnam (D-Waco), Craig [...]

And we will send you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all.
So paint it black and take it back,
Let’s shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end?
We hear the call to, to carry on;
…
And on we carry, through the fears
Ooh oh ohhhh
Disappointed faces of your peers,
Ooh oh ohhhh,
Take [...]

I don’t know about you, but I was fascinated by the “point of order” ruling read out on the floor of the House earlier today. The House Clerk’s office was kind enough to provide me with a copy when I asked for one, and I’m going to post it here. It was in WordPerfect format, [...]

Secretary of State Williams is at the podium and just said something, but there is no sound, so we have no idea what he said. But, it appears the House is still idle.
Clerk is reading a resolution. Williams asked if every member has a copy. Now we’re idle again…Now he’s asking again if everyone has [...]

Since evidently every person in the state of Texas is home liveblogging the speaker’s race, we’ve had a lot of difficulty getting online to watch what is going on. It’s taken all of 15 minutes just to be able to access the main page of the House of Representatives. Evidently, the state is short on [...]

Judiciary Committee Chair Will Hartnett has filed HR 1, which would allow for a secret ballot. Given that I don’t see anything in the rules about delayed release, I assume they would be released as soon as the election is over. Still, that’s probably not as secret as it needs to be to defeat Craddick.
From [...]

Sources inside the Pitts camp said the list to which Taylor referred was an out of date “prospecting” list and only two of the eleven names were ever in play.

A press release from State Rep. Larry Taylor’s office could be a late blow for State Rep. Jim Pitts—if he was counting on the votes of 11 members it included to defeat House Speaker Tom Craddick.
In a joint release, the 11 issued this statement:
“We have been notified that our names (11 names in total) are [...]
